Hi, Thank you for your nice and thoughtful review of my flute/piano duet, "Nightingale's Song"! You asked if I recorded it digitally. I recorded it with a Zoom handheld recorder; nothing special. But I'm a composition student, being played by instrumentalist students, so the recording quality is not comparable to a professional sound studio. It's the fun that counts :) Best, Christina

Hi Kate,
Thank you for your review of "Little Pony"! You're right, it was very complicated, especially for the pianist. We don't have live videos of us on YouTube, alas, just still images. I'm more on soundcloud now, anyways. We have at least one live recital on SIU campus every semester, though, if you travel through Southern Illinois one day :)
Have a happy and successful 2016!

Hi Kate, I couldn't find it under the link you sent me and went through all your files until I found the Nap Song for adults! That one is cool, too! You're right, adults need a nap some time, too ;)

I just spent great winter vacations with my husband's family. We're back to recording coming Monday. I'm cooperating now with a lady I got to know on broadjam -- she writes lyrics (beautiful children's texts, but for adults, too), and I wrote the music to one of her poems. We want to make a CD together, recorded by students from my university. I'm very excited! Hope you got well over the holidays! All the best, Christina

Thanks! I just listened to your "Bad Guys" and "Camp Sight," and liked both! You don't create your own lyrics, either? I just found a poet on broadjam who gave me some poems to write music for, and our first children's song will be recorded in the next few weeks. It's fun! I'm more comfortable as instrumentalist, but I definitely have a lot to learn matching syllables to notes... There's nothing to be envious about -- my music training consisted in six years of piano lessons when I was a child. I've only been composing since winter 2011. I'm taking music classes now, but most is intuition and learning by doing.

Go lucky! :)

Hi Christina,
I snagged a couple piano lessons when I was 6ish and wish I'd have stuck it out longer. The whole music-reading, theory-thinking kinda stuff I musta missed?! But we use what we have and as you said "learn by doing". I ended up playing music full time for over 15 years in a few road bands and loved every single minute of it!

Enjoy the new year Christina, and I wish you all kinds of successes.

Smile tons,
Billy

I don't think the theory-kinking stuff is that necessary. The classics didn't have that, either. Of course, if we want to teach it, it's a prerequisite, but just to work as autodidact and have some fun, we can probably get away without it. It's probably more important to stay ahead of the technology of sound editing nowadays. I used to play the guitar with one other guy in the streets in my early twenties and miss it. Never was in a band; that must have been fun! Happy New Year to you, too!

Christina

Hi Birthe, This was a very teachable, good song! My husband and I discussed whether we would give it the title "Conquests of Men" or "History of Mankind"... BJ always asks for a "title" :) I especially liked your sentence that the invaders took the land from "the crew that was already there." This song should be mandatory on the curriculum of ES, MS, and HS history classes, because kids of all ages should learn that Columbus wasn't maybe that great hero they all were taught to believe, and that every conquest also has another side.

Coming Monday, I'm starting recording again!! We'll begin with a Russian song just with Altynay and Allison, and as soon as the other singer comes back from her vacations, we'll record Nisser!! Can't wait, either. The break was good, and the snow in Michigan was nice, but it's also great to be back home at the piano :) All the best in the New Year,
Christina

Hallo Christina,
Well, I have listened to all of your pieces and they are as intriguing as the names you have given them. I like the humor, I like the 1700 c. sounds, I want to dance gavotte and minuet to them, they are delightful. I wonder if your formal music would be singable with lyrics like my formal poems/songs................At any rate, your music is wonderful and rare.

Hej Christina,
I should love to help you, and I wish I could attend your recital, but alas, I am not able to do either. I am 77 and rather hampered by Parkinsons. I started late writing lyrics and my music connections are few. I hope you have luck elsewhere.
However I should like very much to send you new lyrics on the chance that one might inspire you to set it to music. If you have read the texts of my songs you will know that the style is rather formal, but the content is usually fun. I will quite understand if this has no appeal to you.
Great good luck with the recital and a very happy holiday to you too,
Birthe

Hi Birthe, that would be very interesting! I'll give you my email for sending lyrics to: christinalinda.lyons@gmail.com I'm teaching, and this is our last week before Christmas break, so I'll have some time to compose. I'm an "emerging composer" and have been writing music only since 2011, and my notation is not perfect, but I'm full of fun melodies and quite creative... I've never had lyrics for my children's instrumentals, have worked with very few classical poems, and would be thrilled to try it with one of your texts! I'll keep you updated on the process and will give you credit for the lyrics, of course. I'd be happy to get some of your texts! Until soon, Christina :)

Hey Christina, Thanks for the Review of Daddy-O. You are right, it was written with a Christian world view in mind. I thought your comment about making kids cry was interesting because I have had 2 differing experiences with this song. In one case (absent father), it made a kid cry. In the other case (abusive lousy father), it was the girls' favorite song because it showed them that "really good daddies" truly exist in this world. At any rate, it's a vintage recording. It's quite popular w/ the conservative Christian crowd, and makes a good Father's day song. However, we rarely sang it in our church because of the reasons you mentioned. I originally wrote it for MY kids to sing to THEIR daddy. And he is STILL awesome! Your friend in FL, Mrs. Kate

Oh, how cool! I didn't know it was from you until I had completed my review. I still think you should write a song about yourself as a mother, and all the mothers out there! My church people would love it. It's nice that a kid with an abusive father could see her wish daddy in it. I had problems with my father, even before my parents divorced (he died young, and we kind of never got to resolve them), but I could relate a bit. Do you have a soundcloud or YouTube channel with your works? Best, your friend from IL, Christina :)

Hi back. Christina, I actually do have a Mommy Song. Here is the link: http://broadjam.com/player/player.php?play_file=24409_392681&sessionID=56EDC2430C744A45A21EB9B463B5A902&sessionINDEX=17079 1

This song has had a good amount of download action and is PERFECT for Mother's Day. Sadly I have know some moms who have deserted their children, but it seems to be less frequent than the daddy problem> I am sorry you had trouble with your dad. I do not have a soundcloud but I have quite a few youtubes up. Wish I had more good ones. I need to get some more of my tv show appearances up. Time time time....that's always what I need more of! And motivation for the computer stuff. It always gets relegated to the last thing on my list cuz I don't enjoy the computer stuff. At any rate, send me your email and I will get you on my list. Thanks. Mrs Kate

I came across the anhinga, too. None of my kids chose this bird to integrate into our symphonies, though... Maybe next time ;) You have a missionary daughter; how interesting! He lived in Berlin. He also translated religious books from Portuguese into German. My email is: christinalinda.lyons@gmail.com Would be nice to hear from you some time. Best, Christina

No, they don't do that. But honestly, with it being Christmas, I am swamped right now. We just worked on our Dec/Jan/Feb Calendars. With the holidays, company, and a busy performing/touring sked, it'll be "keep it simple" so I won't be able to listen to or do much, I'm afraid. Merry Christmas!
