JaeN, check out my earlier work from 2009 under John J Capdevielle, III (Trey) song named "Irvine"

Author

hi!!! Wow! you wrote this in 2009 - Crazy sad that it's more potent today then ever.

You are a fantastic lyricist. I love the raw quality of this song. The repetitive "Irvine" hook is effective as I keep singing it and normally I would say this was a cheap "pop" hook trick but yours is elevated because you have so much to say after each Irvine is sung!

Stylistically - I wouldn't say Adam Ant - Perhaps the punky/new wave feel might lend itself to a Green Day comparison, but what we heard (my husband in the background as I was playing it) was:
Devo
Weird Al
Ozzy

We both loved it!

Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna be releasing my political song to the world (if all goes as planned) on 10/5.

Keep your head up, stay vocal, creative and vote vote vote!

I'm the typical right brainer and still getting my ducks in a row. way.... behind you - woah! inpsiring I have 2 albums, 1 ep, some remixes and lots of miscelaneous songs with other artists and one offs. Probabably 200 or more unfinished - ha! $$$$ - Anyway, that's for mentioning you didn't find Fame Costs - it should have been uploaded - it also caused me to go to my ascap page and I noticed that al lthe songs that had been uploaded by my admin are now gone from ascap. What the? So more work to be done. Never ends ;) - Fame costs is up now if you feel like checking it out. running for now.

Thank you Massimo for the 5 star rating. It's been a real pleasure listening to your music. I think contemporary/modern dance choreographers would really take notice of pieces like Teardrops. Collaboration with dancers and choreographers can be truly inspiring, not to mention a great way to gain a wider audience. All best, Amy

Now that's awesome. I'm so happy that my work has enhanced your day somehow;)

What's been going on? Gosh... where to start. I'll bullet point it, haha

Got an awesome three year old autistic son and two beautiful one year old twin girls.

Almost died from an exploded appendix. Scored my first film. And oh yeah... I've been possessed by a demon these last several years, cause I've been busting ass in my studio seemingly non stop since 2014. Oh yeah... did I mention I met my soulmate and moved to Australia in 2014? Yeah... won the lotto there, haha.

Right now though? I'm having a heart attack every time I spin by that 6 Pack page and see myself in the top 3.

Looks like I might be one of this year's more celebrated producers. (Smiles.) my ego needed a good watering, I'm grateful surely, just shocked.

I'm not a songwriter. I'm a composer. A producer. So the idea of me winning seems remote, but you never know, maybe this is my year?

Anyhow. Thank you so much for listening. A lot of hard work, rage, and tears in those songs.

I hope they bring you comfort.

This week, I read a post by one of our long time members who recently reviewed a track and mentioned that the composer was extremely offended by his/her review. They publicly exchanged "pleasantries," so I decided to check out the track and the review. The review was right on and presented in a non-offensive way. The track was in no-way near "primetime" and would never be licensed or purchased in the current form. The reviewer offered some very easy and simple solutions to improve their work. However, the composer didn't want anything do with the suggestions and started trashing the reviewer, not only on Broadjam, but on other sites as well.

Years ago, I saw the Rolling Stones, Santana and Iggy Pop at the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit. On the way out, my friends and I were "giddy" like little kids because the show was so good. While we were waiting at a crosswalk, I heard a guy complain how terrible the Stones and Santana were. He went on to trash the guitar playing of Santana and the on-stage antics of Jagger. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded and wanted to talk some sense into him. But my common sense took over and I kept my mouth shut.

We all have opinions of music and that's all they are, just opinions. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. No matter what kind of art you create, someone will not like it. The goal is to get the majority of your audience to like it. If you can get private, constructive or de-constructive feedback from another, that is a good thing. Publicly trashing those who are trying to help will never advance your cause or make your music better.

So whether you are The Rolling Stones, Santana, Iggy Pop or a member on Broadjam, some will like your art and some will not. And if another person takes the time to review your art and provide private feedback, you should thank them for their time and move on. If you don't agree, thank them and move on. If they are abusive, let us know and move on.

Best of luck,

Roy

Nobody likes to be criticized, but if you are a songwriter, you have to have thick skin. If you don't , you should try something else. I just keep in mind that everyone has their own tastes, and as Paul Simon once said, one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

Very well said Roy and putting it all in context. Viva la difference, regardless of one's art. There needs to be honest, constructive criticism in order to grow. However, mean spirited remarks do nothing but cast a shadow on those who choose to voice such vitreal & cause the recipient pain and sometimes, feelings of defeat. Woe to the individual who would try to trash another's name or reputation, just because their own egos are so fraught with their own self importance.
Thankfully, the majority of the BJ community is caring, supportive & constructive with reviews & comments.

Great, realistic, and honest perspective. That is just what it is-one's perspective, opinion; all based on his/her experiences, skill set, and musical philosophy of pedagogy.

The beauty of this whole experience (that is belonging to a community of artists) is the fact that everything in life should be a learning experience that helps us all grow. But it behooves us to remember that- this, involves respect for one another; especially as musicians and artists.

We are special. God gave us the ability to touch the soul, move people, inspire people, and just plain jam for the masses. Man, if that don't humble and give you the urge to say "Thank you God"; then you might just need to stop and reflect.

Being an artist can sometimes make you feel like you're on a deserted island where no one can hear what you say (or even care about what you say) That should inspire and make you more determined. I've written plenty of songs that I felt should have received better reviews than they did. I had to regroup (and I admit-it was difficult at times) and look at the comments for what they were- constructive critiques. And many times, they were right on point; after I calmed down and really thought about what the critique.

Now, all great artists have experienced, at some time in their journey to greatness, criticism that could have made them just give up; but they believed in themselves and their music. They didn't let the critics deter them nor their dream. You might be the next great one. And if you are, believe it and keep the faith. But never let anyone make you lose your self dignity.

Peace!

Roy, you're writing above has so many lessons that could be applied to any roll in life. It's just some people are not and/or will never be ready to apply them. 1. Listen more, speak less 2. As John Fogerty wrote "you can't please everyone so you got to please yourself!" - I write for myself with as much honesty as I can! That's the cake; and if other's love it, that's the frosting! 3. For goodness sake, be grateful people!

Thank you for all you do for so many of us! You are (and I don't use this word often) brilliant and an inspiration! Rock on! jaen-ifer...... ;p

Wow! That means so much to me. I'm sorry to have missed your thoughtful note. I'm not a 'country' writer but thought this was a theme I never heard tackled. I was then told when pitching that it shouldn't be and that no male country artist would ever cover it. Hmmm... and that I should stick to the genres I know best. Well, I took the review positively but still love the theme & well, maybe I just need to try again to get it to the right artist. Any suggestions! You made my day!
