What's more important - lyrics or melody? The big question. Wars have been fought over less. Can a great lyric survive the car crash of a poor tune? Or a great melody get away with fag packet lyrics? Maybe. But why risk it? I'm a talented experienced writer into well-constructed lyrics that strike chords and touch hearts. Themes include the usual suspects - love, hate, anger, joy, loneliness, alienation, escapism or just the sad realities of life. Mostly it is universal truths well told. All with commercial chart pop or adult pop/rock potential. Willing to explore all different styles. I'd like to find an ambitious composer or co-writer who is maybe finding inspiration hard to come by - someone with depth and imagination who is part genius, part workaholic and 100% original. Method can be words first (my words are written with rhythm and an understanding or phrasing, meter and mood) or melody first. Both work! Love the voice and melody.Good song but could do with being commercially updated for todays market. Wouldnt take much doing. more modern beat and some synth sound maybe. Very listenable and an obvious talent.

She has a recording studio in Portsmouth and a business partner called Chris Weston who has just had a number one in China, Hong Kong and Korea called Falling originally sung by X factor Laura White which in this country is called Dam Baby. Have a listen on Youtube think you'll like it. Do you write much? I wrote Love drug the first time I went in the studio and left me to my own devices! Ive got a lot to learn. I love writing and am looking to collaborate. My daughter partner is with Peer publishing and get good pitches which they let me have a go at. My problem is I don't have vocalist handy and although I have the equipment I need to learn how to record vocals. Alix tells me to look at the 'old music ' and update it so it sounds completely different! What is your back group? I went to music college in newcastle and am classically trained but wished Id done pop! parental choice! Susan
Glad to hear they're having some success. Tough business! Song sounds good, although I only found 'live' versions so it's hard to hear! Yes, I write quite a lot, when I can. Writing's also my day job, so it can be hard to find the time. But it keeps me (relatively) sane. I tend to collaborate with other songwriters and producers as I only write lyrics, not music, and we use all kinds of session singers, as we find that the production has to be top notch to even be considered. Just listened to your new song, Continental Drift. Aware you just write the lyrics, but you obviously have a good team around you, as this is strong lyrically and musically and with a great sounding vocal and production. Do you write the lyrics first, or do you write them to the music? However you do it, it seems to be working well.
Thanks for the comments Ken. I usually don't mind whether it's music or lyrics first, but mostly I write to music (and na-na-nas!). But this is an odd one. It was written to a melody, but was adapted almost word for word (little bit of re-engineering) from a lyric I'd already finished. So a bit of a hybrid. Don't mind how it happens as long as the result sounds good! Cheers.
