"Anj weaves personal storytelling with her unique vocal style and magnificent piano skills into a heartfelt performance you will surely remember." - Larry Oakes, Founder of the Singer/Songwriter Sessions, The Bitter End, NYC

Anj will give breath to the feelings you wish you could speak. The 24 year old singer/ songwriter/pianist plays her unorthodox mixture of blues, jazz and folk with a rawness and introspection that conveys a wisdom far beyond her years.

Born and bred in Atlantic City, NJ - this small-town girl gained a loyal following by relentlessly performing in NJ cafe's. She then took on Philadelphia, playing the prestigous World Cafe Live and Grape Street Pub.

Anj relocated to NYC this October after being extremely well-recieved at some of NYC's biggest clubs; The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, and Cafe Vivaldi. After producing an album, a single, and being named a finalist in the "VH1 Song of the Year" competition, this young woman is truly an artist to watch.

Enough Lightning For Everyone

“Anj's songs are portraits set to music that touch the soul. Her introspective, thoughtful music is a manifestation of true talent and self-expression.” – Steve Angelucci, Atlantic City Weekly.

Anj is a singer/songwriter/pianist that exhibits at age 24 unusual poise and relaxed honesty onstage. Yet it’s no wonder she is so at home when performing. At age 8 she appeared as Dorothy singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow at Bally Park Place Casino in Atlantic City, in a production of Around the World in 80 Minutes. She captured the hearts of an audience of over 900 people.

In her still young career, this artist gathered a lot of attention from the press in the South Jersey area. She has received favorable press from critics of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Courier Post, The Philadelphia City Paper, Atlantic City Weekly, The Ocean City Sentinel, The Egg Harbor Township Current, National Entertainment, and more.

Anj has spent the past two years building a steady fan base through performances at Ceasars Casino in A.C., Grape Street Pub, World Café (WXPN) and local festivals such as Arts Alive. A runner up in the “VH1 Song of the Year” Contest, she is now making her mark in NY, relocating to Greenwhich Village and performing at NYC’s oldest club, The Bitter End as well as the Rockwood Music Hall, Bubby’s Lounge and Café Vivaldi.

Anj has a haunting yet strangely confident voice, that is pristine and yet extremely vulnerable. Her live performances have been likened to a one-woman play set to music, as she reaches out to the audience in interludes of “conversational poetry” that describe the genesis of each song. She demonstrates a beautiful command of her instrument as she tells the story of one who cares too deeply and feels too much and thus is the root of much of her own anguish.

Singing and accompanying herself on grand piano Anj has been at times compared to Carole King, Tori Amos, and Norah Jones, Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, but as is always the way with artists who remain true to themselves, her style is definitely her own.

Her first recording effort, which she describes as a “concept album”, was released in the Fall of 2004. A solo work of piano and voice entitled Coin and a Half Girls is said by Anj to be “a journey through the inner life of one struggling to live honestly and remain grounded - a ceaseless attempt to try to maintain perspective in a world too often shallow and overblown by its own ego.”

On this inventive project, Anj has succeeded in capturing on record the experience of an intimate, autobiographical show in a small theater. Framing the album are dramatic prologue, intermission and closing tracks, which make the record less a collection of songs and more a play broken into two acts. She takes the listener on an unabashedly artistic and honest journey that they will not soon forget.

Anj’s single, “Praise (Happy Birthday My Father)” released in December 2005, was written for her much-adored father’s 50th birthday. If anything can be said to be more beautiful than the song itself, it is the sentiment and story behind which the song was written. She is now working on her sophomore album, When Grey Blushes which she hopes to release in the Summer of 2007.

She is known amongst fellow musicans, fans and followers, for her unfaltering determination, ambition and committment to her dream of having the world hear her music. When within her company, you will often hear her say "There is enough lightning for everyone to be struck with good fortune, you just need to be willing to stay out in the rain long enough be soaked through to the bone."

So stay tuned: she is truly an artist to watch.
