If the title of guitarist Barry Wedgle’s recent release is any hint, heaven is a place where there’s no word for boredom, where the laws of physics are only a suggestion and the unexpected is the norm. Spontaneity and freedom reign supreme.
Aside from the warmth of the nylon strings — often associated with the rich Brazilian bossanova harmonies or Spanish- and Moorish- influenced classical guitar — the finger-style technique lends an even deeper level of intimacy and immediacy to the playing. With even less between the human touch and the string, direct expression of raw human emotion and divine inspiration is unfettered. And that, it seems, is what Paradise is all about.
