Valvedrifter is the creative force generated by Jim Wilson (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Stefan Ice (drums, percussion), Sean Douglas (bass guitar, supporting vocals), and John Floy (lead guitar, keyboards). Valvedrifter began in July 2003 when the John, Sean, and Stefan met via another project.

Shortly thereafter, Jim came on board. They started to share musical ideas and work on their sound. It didn't take long for the four of them to realize that there was abundant chemistry for songwriting.
