Steven "Q-Beatz" Kubie - Bio

Steven “Q-Beatz” Kubie

Not too many music producers out there can say that they got on the radio with their very first single. Also, not many music producers can say that they oversaw production of a complete album before hitting the age of 19. Then again, not everybody can say that they are Q-Beatz either.

Steven “Q-Beatz” Kubie, born in Brooklyn, New York in 1986, moved to South Florida a bit over a decade ago. He developed a knack for music by messing around on his home computer, cutting up random wave files at the age of 13. This graduated to mixing instrumentals and acappellas of different songs together, while splicing in obscure vocal samples and television/movie clips. Over the span of the next 3 years, Steven proceeded from rearranging other people’s songs to making his own beats from scratch, and his true style emerged.

Eventually, he compiled over 100 volumes of tracks before his sophomore year of high school! His influences range from producers like DJ Paul and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia, Dr. Dre and Mannie Fresh, to 80’s video games, suspenseful movie scores, and Spanish telenovelas. He also draws inspiration from such sources as 80’s rock, old school electro hip-hop and Latin freestyle.

By the summer of 2003, Q-Beatz really began to focus on song structure and improving the quality of his sound. Everyone in his classes at JP Taravella High School knew him as that kid who made beats on the desk with his pencil in the middle of class.

To gain notoriety among classmates, as well as get his music out there in some form, Q-Beatz handed out custom cd’s containing special mixes of the hot hits of the time period, done in his own quirky way. Some people were even lucky enough to get their hands on copies of Steven’s own rap songs as early as 2002. He also had worked in the studio with various local rap artists on some material, learning the inner workings of the recording process.

Q-Beatz became the in-house producer at Miami independent label Vishous Vibes Entertainment in mid-2004. Subsequently, Q-Beatz supplied the backdrops of all the songs for the Wolfpak album Feeding Time, as well as recorded solo songs by other acts on the label, all before the close of 2004.

Q-Beatz has progressed from producing strictly southern rap to venturing into R&B, reggae, dance music, reggaeton, and pop. For 2005, Q-Beatz already has a busy itinerary lined up. He currently has logged studio time with artists such as Street Roxx (Get Numb, Pray, Ooh Ahh, Feel the Flow), Murda Blak (Ooh Wit It), and Popp-Da-Rippa (305 LIVE, Super Sex 2006, Ride Wit Da Rippa). Much more is in the works for 2006, with a few surprises in store.

Most recently, Q-Beatz has been preparing his debut full-length rap LP, entitled "The Reverse of What You Think". His intense rapid-fire lyrical delivery is sure to mesmerize fans from all over the world. His use of clever metaphors, hilarious content and pop-culture references will have you reaching for the rewind button to hear what he just said over and over again. His use of humor is refreshing and is something that is rare in this era of hip-hop music where sometimes artists are afraid to let the fans see them crack a smile or joke around.
