Holy Moly

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song when it dawned on me that I was way in over my head in several aspects of my life including my romantic relationship and my professional life. I had no idea what I was doing and this song expresses that sentiment.

Song Description

"This super-charged indie-rock tune has the whoa-ohs of street punk, the thrashing drums of a rock band, and country touches in the vocals. Yet there remains an overall sense that this could have been a folk tune at one point, albeit in a slower tempo. It's a blast to hear lead singer Wilson Getchell belt out, "HOOOO-lllly MOOOO-llllyyyyy" in the chorus." (From Review by Independent Clauses, 2/2017)

Lyrics

"Curse the moment. What did I pay for?
She's in perfume. I'm a bar stool. Woah.
Rusty fingers clutch the pavement.
Weathered and broken. How's Los Angeles? Woah.

Holy Moly! They only want what you can't give.
So you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in. (just now sinking in)
You're fighting battles that you know you just can't win.
And so you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in. (just now sinking in)

I'd love to leave it all behind, jump in the saddle again.
Yeah, don't stare at me like you already know the ending.
Sure, you're alright. I'm on my way there.
Don't look at me. I don't need a thing.

Holy Moly! They only want what you can't give.
So you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in.
You're fighting battles that you know you just can't win.
And so you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in.

Yeah the kids, they don't need you anymore.
and the girls, they don't see you like they did before.
Yeah you tumble in, like some creature, into the room.
Yeah and I don't know the answer. Do you? (fade out long note)

Holy Moly! They only want what you can't give.
So you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in.
You're fighting battles that you know you just can't win.
And so you're getting pretty worried, 'cause it's just now sinking in."
