Story Behind The Song
This piece is a byproduct of the process of creating a set of rules or constraints and then trying to work within them. Rules here are not limitations, but rather frames of reference which can be deviated from sparingly when there is compelling reason for doing so. Without walls, we wouldn?t know of windows. Scales may be elementary, but they provide a frames of reference for pitched sonic events. This piece may not sound Indian, but it follows the Indian practice of stating a scale and then expounding upon it.
Song Description
This entire piece is built from a scale which divides the octave into 9 nonequal steps, with alternating half tone and whole tone intervals. Alternatively, this scale can be derived from a 12 tone chromatic scale with every third note omitted.
