Story Behind The Song
Growing up, all of my friends and I promised that we would never lose touch. It seemed like we would all die if you separated us at the time.
We honestly thought we would be a part of eachothers lives for ever. That is all this song is about. Having good friends as a kid. Losing one of them, and all of us growing up and losing touch.
I went back to visit Tuttle, Oklahoma about a year ago. It wasn't right. Somehow it was the same but different. You really can't go back home.

Lyrics
verse
Once you leave you can't go back home
Still I return from time to time
Searching for the familiar
What once was mine
Like over there at the drive-in
where we used to come unwound
We were the poets and the fools
We dreamed about leaving this town
chorus
We were young and fools at heart
We drove with our lights off after dark
Burning like wild fire
In that oklahoma wind
we got lost and fell in love
Underneath the stars above
Till next morning came
and that Oklahoma sun
I can see em like it's yesterday
Jeff and Steve draggin main
They were the small town heroes
Everyone wanted to be just like em
I hear Jeff moved off to Texas
He's policing the town
And Steve smiled till the bitter end
Now he's holdin the ground
Chorus
We were young and fools at heart
we drove with our lights off after dark
Burning like wildfire
In that Oklahoma wind
We got lost and fell in love
Underneath the stars above
Till that morning came with that Oklahoma sun
Bridge
Seems like yesterday we were burning at both ends
But my how time goes by
We can't go back
Can't go back again
Guitfiddle solo:
verse:
Somethings never change
Somehow it's the same but different
Everyone has the same slow pace
But not one familiar face
chours:
we were young and fools at heart.........
