Story Behind The Song
While I never served in the military, two of my brothers served in the reserves and one brother served in Korea. My father fought in the Phillipines, "WW-II", and at 85 years old, in my opinion, he still suffers from a degree of post tramatic stress disorder. All I can offer is an imagination of what war is like from what I have heard from my father, from many friends and aquaintences who served in various places, and what I've observed on the television from the comfort of my warm, safe home, living in freedom, and always greatful!

Lyrics
A HERO by PETE HANSEN 2007
What's this I fear, embattled in darkness
I'm trembling here, someone is crying
just in my reach, but I'm not the 'hero' yet
What do I do, what if I die
How much will it hurt, enduring the pain
I fear the unknown, so I can't be a hero now.
Cause I'm going home to taste once again
what we're fighting for, to walk through my door
and feel her embrace; I'm so scared and lonely.
Cause I'm not free, the truth is at hand for me.
What have I done, what brought me to this?
It's hard to conceive a reason for killing.
But my friend needs me now, I can't let him down.
Don't want him to die, Lord we need a hero now.
Cause we're going home to taste once again
what we've suffered for, to walk through that door,
and feel her embrace; I'm so scared and lonely.
Until we are free, my oath is still binding me.
In my finest hour, all my soul empowered.
If I can see this through and sacrifice for you.
Then you can go home and taste once again,
what you'll suffer for. Go walk through that door,
and feel her embrace. And never be lonely.
Be happy and free, and maybe remember me.
