Song Description

This song is about facing the things in life that get ya down and doing away with them.

Story Behind the Song

My great-grandpa was a musician and all of that sort of slid down to me. He finally stopped being wild and raised an amazing family. He had to lay down those burdens, as did I.

Lyrics

"Charlie" by Micheal Lee Collins

There was a man named Charlie, born in 1916
He was an Irish Indian and Whiskey made him mean
He made a pact with the devil to never come back again
Slid his guitar under the bed and I never seen him sin

Once he laid his burdens down he lived
The weight of this big ole world started to lift

5 children and a lady, I swear she was made of gold
she was cool as the breeze that makes an angels hair flow
She taught him to fear Jesus and the frying pan
Charlie got up with the chickens and sacrificed a lamb

Ol' Charlie had grandchildren and they had some of their own
His memory still rings out of that dusty silvertone
He was my great grandpa and taught me to play these chords
He said never be scared of nothin' but be sure to fear the Lord
