Song Description

Young person gets a "Dear John" letter from a lover that has moved back home out of state. Coping with sadness appreciating what they had and moving on.

Story Behind the Song

True story of a "Dear John" letter Mike G. Murphy, the writer and composer, got when he was 22 from a girl he lived with in San Dimas, Ca. He loved her dearly and then she moved back home to Jackson, Michigan. The heartache and heartbreak was aweful, but Murphy learned and grew from it and now lives happily ever after; married 24 years to a different best friend who share similar attributes to the girl who moved away and broke his heart in his youth.

Alone Without You (c)
By Mike G. Murphy
Intro with whistling part
Verse #1
There's nothing really I can say to you,
Except I hope your wishes come true,
There's nothing really I can possibly do,
When I can't get even close to you,
To count the times I've tried,
To count the times I've cried
At home without you,
Alone without you.

Verse #2
There's nothing really I could have said to you,
When my hopes and dreams turned
From red to blue,
There was nothing more that
I could possibly do,
As you wrote to me
And said our love was through,
To count the times I've tried,
To count the times I've cried,
At home about you,
Alone without you.

Guitar Interlude Bridge

Whistling part

Unending dreams of pleasant thought,
And though our relationship has come to naught,
I can be satisfied in this respect,
I am grateful for the times that we've had,
Oh won't you agree,
That friendship can be so beautiful,
Alone without you...
