Story Behind The Song
For me, personally, this was about the lethargic feeling and depression you can experience as part of seasonal affective disorder (I live in Chicago, where winters are impossibly long and cold). Per the short description above, one could also apply this to the feeling they have when things are not going their way and you are generally just worn down from all of life's obstacles and disappointments. It's about how depression and lethargy can snowball and how it can drain you of all your energy and willpower.
Song Description
I think this sounds like a cross between The Police, Coldplay and Snow Patrol. I have equated the boxing term "Standing Eight Count" as a metaphor for someone who is drained and lethargic from dealing with all the trials of everyday life.

Lyrics
Another night alone
Lie awake at night and pray
Can't pick up the phone to call anyone
It's such a crying shame
A bullet in the chamber that could end this game
I'm too calloused to trust anyone
I'm in my room and I won't see you today
By the way, I'm sorry if I don't come around
Around for you
An endless blanket stare and I
Don't care where we go tonight
cause anywhere I go, I feel the same
I'm in my room and I won't see you today
By the way I'm sorry if I don't come around
This bitter mood, no it just won't leave me today
It feels like I'm walking through life after a standing eight count
It's feeling so wrong that I
Couldn't be out there with you
I gave it my all, I just didn't pull through
There's a weight I can't describe
It bleeds me out tonight
Maybe it's why, I'm stuck in my room
Another night alone
Lie awake at night and pray
Can't pick up the phone, to call anyone
I'm in my room and I won't see you today
By the way I'm sorry if I don't come around
This bitter mood, no, it just won't leave me today
It feels like I'm walking through life after a standing eight count
It feels like I'm walking through life after a standing eight count
