No Greater Friend (New)

Song Description

The beginnings of this song came by way of the 4th century writings of Saint Ambose. I discovered his work while reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's 1938 book "Life Together". Bonhoeffer penned this book while leading an underground Christian seminary in Nazi Germany. To Thee our morning songs of praise. To thee our evening prayer we raise; Thy glory suppliant we adore For ever and for evermore I believe it does the heart good to greet the morning with praise and to kneel with prayer upon the fading of day's light. Furthermore, I believe this to be common to all whom seek to follow Christ, and honor God. Those original words of Ambrose comforted Dietrich Bonhoeffer and still beckons the Christian pilgrim today. It led my heart to sing and to recognize my (our) greatest friend.

Lyrics

Verse 1
Unto Thee is my morning song of praise
And unto thee, evening prayer I raise
It's your Glory, so humbly I adore
Forever, and forevermore

Pre Chorus
On my knees, I find a peace
In your song, my heart is freed
Within your light, I find my way
Covered in the glory of such amazing grace

Chorus
You carried my cross to Calvary
Bore my sorrows in Gethsemane
All redeeming love, His wounds supply
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine

Verse 2
There was a crown of thorns, a bleeding side
And a table, of the bread and wine
Under darken sky, on quaking sod
The lost are saved in Him, this Son of God

Pre Chorus
On my knees, I find a peace
It's in your song, Lord, my heart is freed
Within your light, I find my way
Covered in the glory of such amazing grace

Chorus
You carried my cross to Calvary
Bore my sorrows in Gethsemane
All redeeming love, His wounds supply
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine

Bridge

The Broken made whole
The Lost come home
Oh, reign forever, shepherd of my soul
The Broken made whole
The Lost come home
Oh, reign forever, shepherd of my soul
The Shepherd of my soul

Chorus
You carried my cross to Calvary
Bore my sorrows in Gethsemane
All redeeming love, His wounds supply
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine
No greater friend than this, lay his life for mine
