Story Behind The Song
We all start out with hopes and dreams. For many people unfortunately, dreams are merely fantasies that are supposed to fade away when we grow up. All too often, people end up believing that dreams cannot come true so they take on hum drum lives with hum drum jobs and families and live a miserable existence. Now in my late forties, I see many examples in my life of people who fit this description so I wrote a song about it.
Song Description
It's a slow rock ballad about how we can so easily let go of our dreams without even knowing it. About how life often catches up to us so fast and can pass you by while you make excuses for why you never pursued your passions. At some point there comes a day of reckoning when you find yourself looking back instead of looking forward anymore and how to deal with the pain and sadness that comes from giving up.

Lyrics
Once I thought that I could fly
That we were more than ordinary men
Who sailed above the mountains
And walked across the deep blue sea
Then years add up
Now she wants to settle down
My friends moved on
And left me this old town
And suddenly the mountains seem so
Far away and too damn high to climb
CHORUS:
Heaven has no place for us
Has no taste for us
Who's going to take you
When they forsake you
Heaven has no place for us
Has no space for us
Who's going to face you
Who's going to save you tonight
(V2)
Some wounds heal some cut too deep
Our loves lie piled upon the crested heap
We cast our dreams to exile
Yearlings that would never fly
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
Broken dreams are lining up inviting us to dance the past away
Weary of excuses about the world's unfair abuses
As they tug at you like children
Won't you come on out to play
SOLO over chorus form
You tell yourself it's all OK
But I still think back
To the one that got away
They all labeled her the outcast
Now she's staring back
