Story Behind The Song
This track was my entry into the August 2004 KvR Contest. The contest restriction was that the track could not be longer than two minutes, so this is a fairly short piece trying to tell a big, big story. (Incidentally I came 19th out of 62 entries - I had no expectation to win since it was my first time entering and I was up against some outstanding talent).
So this is my first foray into creating a big orchestral sound. Everything you hear is coming out of SampleTank 2 XL, and I deliberately kept myself to using just that single synth.
What I'd like to do is develop this piece into a proper suite of movements called the "Reflectitudes Symphony". It's about reflecting back on my life and the journey it's taken. Lots of big emotional, sweeping, lush pieces that will inspire and move the listener. That will be a project for 2005 I think.
Song Description
Pensive piano notes signals anticipation while a mellow choral pad floats behind. Then a change of melodic line introduces the orchestra, which then dominates the remainder of the tune to build to a might conclusion with timpani and a lone soprano.
