Little Mermaid from Tennessee

Story Behind The Song

When I started learning the guitar, my little sister was very impressed with my efforts, so she gave me a little tin ornament. It was a mermaid with big green eyes, long brown hair, and a guitar.

This song is about a chorus girl from Tennessee working on a cruise ship, but she finds a magic guitar. She takes the guitar on deck and is splashed by a wave. The guitar starts to flash and she turns into a mermaid. She then is always seen swimming around, playing her guitar and singing.

Lyrics

She?s got big green eyes
And long brown hair
And a little guitar that she takes everywhere

She swims around
Singing songs in the sea
She?s the Little Mermaid from Tennessee

She worked on a cruise as a chorus girl
She found a guitar made of mother-of-pearl
She looked around, there was no one to claim
The little guitar that would give her fame

[instrumental guitar break]

She went out on the deck, there was a big splash!
The wet guitar started to flash
Sea stars sung in a serenade
As the girl grew into a mermaid

She?s got big green eyes
And long brown hair
And a little guitar that she takes everywhere

She swims around
Singing songs in the sea
She?s the Little Mermaid from Tennessee
