Was It Written That Way

Once there was a father who begot his only son
To let him die for something that other folks had done
It's hard for me to understand what he was thinking of
But they say it had to do with faith and love

So someone wrote a book to try and tell me how to live
What I should believe in and who I should forgive
In it there's a story of the man who came to die
He was hung upon a cross for you and I
---Chorus---
Was it written that way?
Who's to argue, who's to say
There is only one way
When the daytime turns to nighttime & the night into the day
---------------------
Someone sang a song today just to show me how they feel
Told another story of a dream that seemed soo real
Way beyond the melody and words that strained to rhyme
Was the notion of a love for all mankind

But someone killed the singer, they didn't like the way he looked
They said they were defending what they read inside that book
So how can someone take the word & twist it to pretend
That any means will justify their end
---Chorus---
Was it written that way?
Should I argue, should I pray
Is there only one way
When the daytime turns to nighttime & the night into the day
---------------------
----Bridge----
I can ponder, you can wander, we all know the drill
The heart & soul must keep the faith, the mind it never will...free will
I find it hard to understand that's just the way it was
In a time & place before the gift of love
---Chorus---
So it was written that way
You can argue, you can pray
You can go your own way
When the daytime turns to nighttime & the night into the day

Not my normal cup of tea but I liked it

I really like the lyrics and the vocals are great. Love the fiddle and how it is arranged with the rest of the music. The drums really have a great sound as well. It kind of reminds me of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

I've heard your stuff before and as always good, good,

Powerful cohesive lyrics. Nicely done. Very smooth instrumentation and blended well with your vocals.

Nice user-friendly voice, interesting lyric and attractive country-style arrangement (the violin embellishments especially skilful). Altogether a pleasing production.

Very well recorded tune! Vocals are very good and I love the fiddle/violin touch. Harmonies are nice and the song is just overall balanced really well. I think this can be used in several areas, especially film and TV.

Love the violin! Harmonies work well, One comment, I'd like to hear the harmony come in half way through the bridge. Great tune!

good songwriter country folk song. liked the fiddles and production. very lyrical which i liked

Great message! Very solid music track. Very solid production and professional production. Great musicianship. Clear vocal with a pleasing timber and vocal quality.

Well-written song. Very nice vocal performance. Nice arrangement.

Interesting lyrics. I listened very carefully, played it twice, and the intent of the lyrics still eludes me. Is it just a speculative pondering on the mystery of the death of Christ to redeem us, and when did love begin? I don't get the meaning or the logic, but it is sung with such a pleasing voice that it really doesn't matter that the meaning is unclear. The words are nice, they rhyme and the rhythm fits the pleasant melody. One can listen and enjoy speculating and wondering what the meaning really is.
