Lyrics
"THE STARS AND THE STRIPES"
(Verse 1)
FIRST CLASS PRIVATE JONES JUST READ A LETTER FROM HOME
HIS BABY GIRL FINALLY GOT HER FIRST TOOTH
HIS LITTLE BOY HAD HIS FIRST FIGHT AT SCHOOL
AND THE RAIN LEAKED AGAIN RIGHT THROUGH THEIR ROOF
HIS WIFE'S HANGING IN LIKE A HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMP
SHE'S THE REASON HE'S MADE IT THIS FAR
HE HOLDS ON TO THE CROSS SHE HUNG ON HIS NECK
AS HE PRAYS FOR HIS LIFE UNDER THE STARS
(Chorus)
HEY SAYS
LORD PLEASE LET ME AND MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
GET THROUGH THIS HELL ONE MORE NIGHT
WE'LL WAKE UP TOMORROW AND WALK THROUGH THE SORROW
AND FIGHT AGAIN FOR THE STARS AND THE STRIPES
(Verse 2)
BORN INTO A FAMILY OF GOD FEARING SOLDIERS
THE FLAG AND OUR FREEDOM RUN DEEP IN HIS VEINS
HIS DADDY AND GRANDPA ARE BOTH FALLEN HEROES
THEY LAY SIDE BY SIDE IN A VETERAN'S GRAVE
(Chorus)
AND HE PRAYS
LORD PLEASE LET ME AND MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
GET THROUGH THIS HELL ONE MORE NIGHT
WE'LL WAKE UP TOMORROW AND WALK THROUGH THE SORROW
AND FIGHT FOR THE STARS AND THE STRIPES
(Verse 3)
FOUR YEARS HAVE GONE BY, CAPTAIN JONES HAS GONE HOME
WITH DEEP SCARS AND MEMORIES BURNED INTO HIS MIND
AS HE STEPS OFF THE PLANE, HE REMEMBERS THE NAMES
OF ALL THE SOLDIERS, ALL OF THE SOLDIERS
THAT HE LEFT BEHIND
(Chorus)
AND HE PRAYS
LORD PLEASE HELP ALL OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
GET THROUGH THAT HELL ONE MORE NIGHT
THEY'LL WAKE UP TOMORROW AND WALK THROUGH THE SORROW
AND FIGHT AGAIN FOR THE STARS AND THE STRIPES
