Oliver's Song

Story Behind The Song

Oliver Crane is a miracle. I went in for "the" surgery after our fourth child Spencer, and for a man that usually ends it all. Five months later, however, my wife Dawn was pregnant with our fifth child Oliver. My 70 year old doctor could not explain it! He had done some 4,000 procedures and never had a man, who followed his rules of verifying that it actually worked after the procedure, whose surgery was reversed. Amazing! Fast forward to when Oliver was 3 years old... I came home one day and Dawn said "Oliver wrote a song and he wants you to hear it". I grabbed my mini-recorder and asked Oliver to sing. I recorded his little "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah", and didn't think anything of it. While preparing songs for this album, I found my little recorder and came across his little melody. Not knowing what to do, I consulted Dawn. She said, "You should write a song about the miracle of Oliver"! There you have it. I made the verse of the song the story of Oliver's miracle conception, and the Chorus his very own "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah" melody. In the process of writing this song, and sharing it with friends, I have come to the conclusion that Nursery schools kids really do come up with the best melodies!

Lyrics

Four children and we said "we're done"
Spencer Richard was to be the last one
Had the procedure, doc said "everything's OK"
But You had other plans that day
Five months later number five on the way
Couldn't believe it with the plans we made
But I heard Your voice say
"Trust in me... just follow and I will lead"
Will you sing along, to Oliver's song?
A simple melody
Every little note, was in the plans You wrote
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
There's something special that You put in his heart
A song came out before the walking could start
And every time I look in his eyes
I'm reminded by Your miracle of life
We will follow wherever You go
Where we're headed only You can know
We will follow wherever You go
Every moment in time You make
Your plan is perfect You don't make mistakes
Every time I look at Your life
I'm reminded by Your perfect sacrifice
