Story Behind The Song
I had a friend when I was at University in 1984 who was going through a bad time, feeling alone and felt like quitting his studies and going home. Through friendship and encouragement he was shown that his life was not as bad as he thought and that there were people who cared about him. he did stay to finish his course.
I wrote this song at the time as I was greatly impressed by the power of true friendship

Lyrics
Don't Despair (Rob Watkins)
You look in your heart
When you want a way to start
But the feeling you get
Makes you want to forget the past.
All through your time
You've tried to keep a straight line
But conditions that prevailed
Made your resolutions pale and fade.
Chorus:
It's not easy to pretend
When you're at a dead end
And you know you're on your own.
Every time you need a friend
And you feel so alone
Don't despair
Don't despair
I'll be there
Don't despair.
Although things seem bad
And you're feeling so sad
Just keep up the fight
You'll soon see the light, I know.
When everything fits into place
And there's a smile upon your face
You'll look back and say
Today's a better day for me
Chorus
