As a boy we had a neighbor,
A widow sweet and kind.
She?d come by with a tray of homemade cookies,
To sit and spend some time.
The war had taken her only son,
In a land so far away.
I?d ask my Dad why care about her?
These words I heard him say.
Chorus:
We?re here on this big earth together, and all of us bound to the same fate.
We gotta choose to help one another before its too late.
Here?s my prayer, that someone will always be there.
When you?re feeling so lonely.
As I grew Id tease this lady,
Stupid childish games.
And all she ever asked of me,
Was my own name.
My folks would help her with housework,
A frail frame now couldn?t do.
I was always too busy to lend a hand,
And this my Daddy knew.
Chorus:
I used my friends to get ahead.
Abused my family ties.
So when they turned their backs on me,
It cut me down to size.
There I was so all alone,
A tray of cookies she had brought.
And it gave us a reason to carry on, cause I was the son she lost.

Chorus:
We?re here on this big earth together,
And all of us bound to the same fate.
I?m learning to help my neighbor,
Before its too late,
To honor my daddy?s prayer.
That in helping them through their despair,
We?ll find an Angel who?ll always be there.
