You're Not Alone

Story Behind The Song

From my CD No Formal Training

Song Description

The sign of our times, a desperate man in a desperate situation, who contemplates suicide. Is he a coward or is it time to give up? Very edgy and cool "opinion" song.

Lyrics

You're Not Alone
C)2011, 2012 Words and Music by Warren Hein

You lost your job nothin' new
Came home and shoved your wife
You told her call a hearse for you
But she runs she chooses life
If you're ashamed get off your ass
No bud this aint peachy
A know it all who don't know crap
Your coward's way is easy

Just because you fear the ticking of the clock
Doesn't mean you need to stop it
You're not alone with your lousy luck
There are millions more who've lost it
You're not alone

These times bare down on you
Like a semi with no brakes
But you're a wounded dog
Licking your mistakes
You contemplate with alcohol
As if to make it easy
You think there's nothing left to lose
As you load that magazine

Across town late tonight there's someone who still loves you
But she's no fool she's a wife with nothin' to hold on to

Hear that ring? Pick up the phone
You're still loved you're not alone
It still rings pick up the phone
You're still loved you're not alone
But for you it's hard to choose
Which hand to use
The shaky one with the gun
Or the steady one with the booze

Lyrics are great,
Reminds me a little of Rufus wainwright
Instrumentation is very cool.

Now where do we start ! The idea of the song reminded of THE SNIPER by Harry Chapin , who just happens to be my favourite singer songwriter . If you haven't heard it , check it out .
You have a very unique voice , it won't be to everyone's taste , but I found it interesting to say the least .

This song is a wake-up call to the lazy guy who is down on his luck and wants to end it all. It's a powerful song with lyrics that basically punch you in the gut, they are so hard-hitting. I mean that in a good way. This artist is extremely original and has obviously found his own voice. He's singing about something I have never heard anyone singing about before. He's abrupt, ruthless, and honest, yet hopeful: You're not alone. Someone loves you. But get off your rear end and quit feeling sorry for yourself. I hope that this song inspires many. It impressed the heck out of me! Love the cello at the beginning and the end. Instrumentation was great. Mix great. Vocals clearly sung. This is a winner.

Lyrics a little worrying and downbeat, although reassuring in parts. An unusual song - like something Talking Heads would do. Yes, I think I like it, give me more !

unique vocals, unique song and arrangement . good lyrics. kind of rock /indie/ish like a modern western this song
musically there is a lot to it. interesting arrangement , some great sounds , the beginning musically sets the tone of more to come
enjoyable track makes the listener want to hear ago as there is a lot to hear.

love the acoustic guitar recording. if it were a wine it'd be buttery!
at times the vocals sound a bit like an 80's band (Midnight Oil) so I dug the sound right from the start.

What a story I hope not yours...cello part is just great makes it feel dark .Intro with cello and guitar awesome, nice harmony parts...love the parts of music that go dark, what a trip...nice ending with the cello...not an expected instrument for a story like this.

Certainly a set of lyrics that made me sit up and listen...the style grew on me during the song...I put it in the folk category but its a bit hard to categorise.( thats good in my head) could just as well bu a punk song given a different arrangement

Very listenable, intriging lyrics and a "real" performance!
Nice job.

Lot's of attitude in the vocals... sincerity is there... nice bass playing too

unusual lyrics, interesting, well recorded

cool tune here...great message.

Love this style of song. Reminds me of songs from "rocky horror" or another similar style of musical. Could possibly market this with theater, movies.

The lyrics match perfectly with the mood of the music (the more pessimistic lyrics with the minor keys and the optimistic ones with the major ones).

I like this kind of music. There's a message to it. There are really good lyrics and the instrumentation is very good. It's almost a talky/singy kind of vocal, but it works well with this song. The chorus fits too. Smooth arrangement and pretty original. We don't hear a lot of this music on the radio. This is pretty cool. Real music. Not manufactured.

for people who are insecure

Great arrangement! The instrumentation surrounding a strong and unique vocal was awesome! The progression kept me listening with interest.
