DON'T CALL MY NAME

Story Behind The Song

A guy I worked with went out with this girl and she kept calling him afterwards. He did not want to go out with her so he finally told her "Don't call my name". The words stuck in my mind and years later, I wrote a song about it.

Song Description

This is a song about a woman who is sick of being taken for granted by her boyfriend. She is tired of this kind of relationship. Even though, she loves him, deep down she knows it's time to quit. She tells him not to call her anymore.

I gave you all that I had left to give.
You took it all, love, what's left just won't live.
How come you call me so sweetly, then toss me completely,
that's not gonna happen to me anymore.

I sure have given this a lotta thought;
think I'll change my name, that's what I will do
so when you call me and call me and call me and call me,
I won't answer because my name won't be the same.
Oh, what a shame...

Don't call my name I won't listen to you.
Don't call my name, I don't care what you do.
You keep on telling me how great you are.
Hey, superstar, how you like it out there?
Don't call my name, I won't come when you call.
Don't call my name, I don't want you at all.
You think I'm nothing but a funky kid...
Hey, superstar, how you doing so far?

You think you're Tarzan and fly tree to tree.
You've gone too far, man, to keep lovin' me.
You keep on yellin' and yellin' and yellin' and yellin'
I won't answer because you know my name, not Jane.
Oh, what a shame...

Your days of " Tarzan want supper" are gone.
I ain't a comin'...I'm movin' along
so when you call me and call me and call me and call me
I won't answer because I'll be in Tennessee.
Don't follow me.

Don't call my name, I won't listen to you.
Don't call my name, I don't care what you do.
You keep on telling me how great you are.
Hey, superstar, how you like it so far?
Don't call my name, I won't come when you call.
Don't call my name, I don't want you at all.
You keep on telling me how much you care.
Hey, superstar, how you doing out there?

We had our good times, maybe so,
but now it's time for me to go.
The hardest thing I ever had to do
was to decide saying goodbye to you.
Don't call my name anymore.
