Lyrics
Home for Christmas
copyright 2004, Diane Stanton-Rich
Verse 1:
Grandma and Gramps got the Christmas tree down from the attic
Nine hours away the grandkids piled into the backseat
Aunt Myrtle baked her famous chicken pot pie
When Brent drove from college toward Grandma's, it started to sleet
Chorus:
Christmas, We're going home for Christmas
Everybody wants to be
With family
Though we might have to drive all night
In the end it will be alright
If we can be home for Christmas
Verse 2:
On the front porch Grandma put the large styrofoam snowman
The noisy grandkids drove their parents crazy in the van
Aunt Myrtle yelled, "Oh no! I've burnt my pot pie."
Brent phoned Gramps to say, "It's snowing. I'll get there when I can."
Chorus:
Christmas, We're going home for Christmas
Everybody wants to be
With family
Though we might have to drive all night
In the end it will be alright
If we can be home for Christmas
Verse 3:
Gramps put the star on the tree. Grandma brought out the turkey
The grandkids hugged, "Hello"--then ran to peek under the tree
Aunt Myrtle came and brought some ham and biscuits
Brent called from a pay phone and said, "Go ahead without me."
Bridge:
The clock--tick, tick, tocked
Gramps said, "Kids, open one gift while we wait."
The clock--tick, tick, tocked
"Do you think Brent's OK? It's getting late."
The clock--tick, tick, tocked
Grandma tried to keep the food from getting cold
Brent walked in--a wondrous sight to be hold
Chorus:
Christmas, We're going home for Christmas
Everybody wants to be
With family
Though we might have to drive all night
In the end it will be alright
If we can be home for Christmas
