Story Behind The Song
I was thinking, upon writing this, about all the depth of the distance the Lord Jesus Christ crossed as God in Heaven, coming to take the from of man on sin-sick, cursed Earth . . . this was the result. The world into which He came is bleak . . . but He brings the light!

Lyrics
Immortal plunge! What distance He,
Who rules beyond the skies
And dwells in light more pure and bright
Than ever meets our eyes
Came down, to live within a world
So sinful, cold, and dim!
Ah, what a plunge, from Heaven's throne
To little Bethlehem!
Immortal plunge! What glory did
The Lord of Lords lay down,
To take the form of those He formed
From the dust of the ground!
The Voice that spake the universe,
All its wonders, far and wide,
Took on our needs, and pled our needs
With just a baby's cry.
Immortal plunge! That He who gave
Each creature it's homestead,
Could not receive, when He came down,
A pillow for His head!
No mighty, wealthy family
Knew to make a place for Him;
A peasant girl would mother Him
In the stable of an inn.
Immortal plunge! Immortal love!
For God became Immanuel,
And with those He would save, He dwelled
And died a crucifixion death
To pay for sins 'til none was left.
He rose again to ever be
A living Saviour, yes, indeed!
And all who believe on Him
Shall one day dwell with Him -- immortal!
