Song Description

Its about a small argument and how distance can make things seem so much worse. How the relationship ("the relation-ship is sailing") can seem like its falling apart, so there is a twisting dispair and a desire to clear things up as you move throught the good and bad parts of your bond. As time goes on, you still have a chance to call her and make up, afterall...its still yesterday. 3am here, california twelve. Its an intangible time machine.

Story Behind the Song

I wrote this after just comming to DC back from Laguna Beach. And everytime I think about california, I remeber the easy going time and the way the waves crash on the rocks, but noone gets heart. I awoke recently and looked at the clock. I said its 3am here, California 12.

Lyrics

California Twelve. Copyright 2005 by Cliff Paris
It?s a Time Machine

Earth Quakes and Rattle Snakes and Things are falling off the shelves.
We drive down rodeo and can?t help but look at ourselves.
You left in the dark, Your heart was big. Your plane was wide.
I can?t even start, telling you my side.
I?ve go nothing to hide.
One week?s like forever, when multiplied by miles
Add a little argument and years, years come to mind

I wish I could talk to you.
Take away all the foolish things I say.
After all its still yesterday.
Three A.M. here, California, twelve.

I made a commitment.
To be waiting in line.
But some other shipment.
Is spoiling my limes.

I can see the relationship.
Sailing.
The cargo is my heart.
And baggage claim, is too damn far to walk.

I wish I could talk to you.
Take away all the foolish things I say.
After all its still yesterday.
Three A.M. here, California, twelve.

The ocean seems to take you further and further away.
The beautiful sunset, compared to you, now seems ordinary.
You got me.

I wish I could talk to you.
Take away all the foolish things I say.
After all its still yesterday.
Three A.M. here, California, twelve.

If I could go Anywhere in the world one to ten.
If I could be Anywhere in the world one to ten.
California Twelve.
It?s a time machine, A time machine
California Twelve.
