Song Description

Mid-tempo, guitar-based pop rocker. Wistful lyric about a girl with a coloful name and a guy who's never seen her.

Story Behind the Song

Amber Lavender was a real contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? I heard her name announced, but intentionally didn't watch the show. The lyric started out based on that experience, but evolved into the story in the final lyric.

Lyrics

Her name's on the mailbox two over from mine
On a lavender label on 329
In a cold, gray apartment hallway -- she's all the color you'll find there
But when I read Amber Lavender there's color everywhere

Amber Lavender -- she's a Technicolor girl
A mystery down the hall from me in a sunset-tinted world
Amber Lavender -- it's really such a shame
I'm in love with Amber Lavender and I only know her name

One night I heard music from 329
A sad, lonely love song in three-quarter time
I was standing on her doorstep with some violets in my hand
Why I set them dowm and turned around I'll never understand

Amber Lavender -- she's a Technicolor girl
A mystery down the hall from me in a sunset-tinted world
Amber Lavender -- it's really such a shame
I'm in love with Amber Lavender and I only know her name

I cant explain how just her name
Can color away all my shades of gray.
And if we meet could she compete
With my image of her
In shades of Amber Lavender?

Today on the mailbox two over from mine
Amber was missing from 329
Now someone else's name's there
I think it's Black, or Gray or White
But I'll still see Amber Lavender in the sunset every night

Amber Lavender -- she's a Technicolor girl
A mystery down the hall from me in a sunset-tinted world
Amber Lavender -- it's really such a shame
I'm in love with Amber Lavender and I only know her name
