Song Description

Social commentary on Racism.

Story Behind the Song

Inspired by the killing of Trayvon Martin in Sanford Florida 2012.

Lyrics

Insidious
--an original song by CC Carter & Phil Asinc

Verse 1.
A warm and rainy winter night northeast of Orlando
A young man walked down to the corner store
He was 17 years old
As he tightened up his hoodie to the weather
He was talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone
Going to buy some tea and candy
But he never made it home

Verse 2.
The wanna-be policeman was out driving
He was hoping for some action
Just another rainy rainy night
And as the winter rain was falling
It seemed like his life had lost its attraction
He had a loaded gun and he was keen to take a life

Chorus.
Racism is insidious
It diminishes the best of us
It festers like a cancer
Like a darkness on the heart
Just when we think we have made some progress
Someone will act out on their sickness
And make us realize that we have barely made a start

Verse 3.
And when the wanna-be policeman
Saw the young man walking
With a cell phone and a hoodie on
He had a prejudiced conclusion
Only guilty of
W.W.B. in a gated white community
But the wanna-be policeman had already pulled his gun

Chorus.
Racism is insidious
It diminishes the best of us
It festers like a cancer
Like a darkness on the heart
Just when we think we have made some progress
Someone will act out on their sickness
And make us realize that we have only made a start
