Story Behind The Song
I realized that no matter how old I was, my dad still cried when I left home. Whether it be after a visit or when I joined the service, off to college or a move to that first real job, he always shed a tear. As I got older, I began to understand why he felt that way. I could see that I would be following the traditions of his heart. I too, would shed a tear when my children left home. I know how important it is to visit or pick up a phone because you never know when it?s gone.

Lyrics
Papa?s Still Cry
Verse
My papa still cries when I leave home though I'm a full grown man,
Things that are going through my mind he seems to understand,
Visit for a while, talk about old times, and go down memory lane,
But that look in his eyes when it?s time for good-by?s, as he holds on to his cane.
Chorus
Papa?s still cry when you leave home, so visit for a while or pick up a phone.
Papa?s still cry when you leave home, I will always be his child, even though I?m grown.
Verse
My Dad seems to never grow old though his hair is turning gray,
He has made me what I am and he?s a man in every way,
He's done so many things for me it makes me it makes me want to cry,
But that look in his eyes when it?s time for good-bye?s, I start to realize.
Chorus
Papa?s still cry when you leave home, so visit for a while or pick up a phone,
Papa?s still cry when you leave home, so visit for a while before it?s all gone.
Bridge
Looks like I?ll be following traditions of his heart,
Same emotions I will feel, when you have to start,
Your first day of school, college too, a move to that first job,
Now I know these tears will always be, a part of me.
Chorus
I will cry when you leave home, come visit for awhile, or pick up a phone,
Yes I will cry when you leave home, yeah Papa?s still cry when you leave home.
