Story Behind The Song
My daughter has always given me strength during adverse times, courage to be more than I am, reason to try so many new experiences in life. She has always inspired me to write -- and she's such a great writer herself. She has made a good mother out of me, and has encouraged me to assume new roles that I never thought I could or would do.
Song Description
I wrote these words after a rainy morning on my daughter's birthday. She has always loved the rain; I couldn't help recalling all the soccer games she had played in the pouring rain and mud, and how much she loves the smell and feel of the rain. On her birthday morning, as we backed out of our driveway, she actually thanked God for sending her the rain. The song traces my life as a mother, and celebrates the accomplishments of both mother and daughter.

Lyrics
Fifteen years ago today on a lovely May morning
Born out of my body she took us all by surprise
Almost a month early she came quickly without warning
Just in time for Mother's Day I melted at the sound of her new-born cries
She gave me strength
Gave new meaning to my life
A new direction
A mother's journey has its ups and downs
Its share of joy, its fill of pain
But when the sky is falling
My baby says she loves the rain
She loves the rain!
Five years on the journey I became a Soccer Mom
Heart beat stopping short every time she took a dive
Ten years on the sidelines I've been cheering her on
Watched her, so triumphant, score that winning goal so many times
I love her strength
Love to watch her as she grows
Each new direction
A daughter's journey has its ups and downs
A little loss, a little gain
But when the sky is falling
My baby says she loves the rain
She loves the rain!
This morning as we backed out from the driveway
To head for school, I heard my baby say
Thank you to God for all this lovely rain
Falling gently on her fifteenth birthday,
My baby says she loves the rain...
She loves the rain!
Fifteen years beyond that lovely May the ninth
When she was born, I am reborn too...
The team coach, a volunteer teaching junior high
I am amazed at all these things I never thought that I could do...
She gives me strength
Gives new meaning to my life
A new direction
A mother's journey has its ups and downs
Days full of wonder, no two the same
And when the sky is falling
My baby says she loves the rain
She loves the rain!
