Lyrics

Today a dragon came and ripped a hole into your favorite skirt
And a monster in the playground went nd pushed you in the dirt
But in this castle with its walls of pink the dragons have been slain
And nothing can touch you now safe from the horrors of first grade

You were the first one to come into my life
The soul of the flow of the love of man and wife
And now you're beginning to walk a bit more sure
And you're needing less of me to be strong and feel secure

But when the night comes and you look up and you say it's dolly time
And I tell you how you're loved and how everything's all right
And when you sigh when I'm holding your little hands in mine
That.s got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know

And I watch you with feelings of both happiness and dread
Cause I know the years will steal my girl and leave a woman in her stead
But todays are here so short a time, so let's enjoy their stay
So that when tomorrows come, we will love our yesterdays

When the night comes and you look up and you say it's dolly time
And I tell you how you're loved and how everything's all right
And when you sigh when I'm holding your little hands in mine
That's got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know

There was a time when I thought that life was for me myself and I
And I couldn't see the wonder that was right before my eyes
But then you taught me what is beautiful and you taught me what is true
That the greatest part of life is the time I have with you

And when you sigh when I am holding your little hands in mine
That's got to be the sweetest sound I've ever known
Yes that has got to be the sweetest sound I'll ever know
