Story Behind The Song

This song started off as just a beat I had laying on my laptop. The instrumental was very sparse with the main piano and guitar lines with some violin and orchestral strings and no drums. At the time I had known Orion13 for a few years and we had collaborated on a few songs together that we never put out. Eventually we got a chance to link up for the first time in about a year for a recording session. I remember just playing him some beats and Lotus Pose was one of the first tracks he listened to. I believe the verse that he recorded was written previously but somehow the overall vibe and energy matched the instrumental perfectly so he ended up recording it to the beat the way it was. After he left I didn't touch the song until a week later when I decided to change the beat around a bit and add some more drums. I also wanted to take some instruments out and figure out how to sequence it better. Eventually he came back and re-recorded his verse and wrote and recorded a hook. He asked me if I wanted to spit something to it and I said yea but I didn't really have anything for it at the time. After he left I just listened to his verse some more and edited his vocals for the hook. Eventually I started writing and I recorded a rough draft of the first verse. I remember emailing that version to him, Sa'rah Rasheed, and Cruz OmegaSoul to get their input. I wasn't satisfied with my take so I re-recorded the verse probably 5 or 6 times until I got it down perfectly how I wanted it. This song is one of my favorites and I was inspired by Orion13's writing and his unorthodox style of rapping. It definitely inspired me to try and really perfect my verse on this track using a kind of melodic Bone, Thugs, and Harmony kind of delivery on the second half of my verse and just writing from a sense of overcoming the odds and ignoring the statistics. I was also listening to a lot of Ab Soul at the time and I'm sure he influenced my thought process when I was putting my verse together.

Song Description

This song is similar to Thinking Man in that it deals with defeating your own internal and external demons in order to pursue your dreams. It features certain esoteric themes such as third eye chakras and the law of attraction.
