Story Behind The Song
As a middle school teacher I constantly witness the trial and beauty of adolescence. This song is for my students, in all their awkwardness and honesty.
Song Description
"We're Here Now" is whimsical look back at a troubled youth. The song begins with a bang of the drums and a floating organ solo before settling into a laid-back groove. The chorus poses the question "when did I grow up?" There is a sense of self-consciousness in this nostalgia, and the song celebrates the present with all it's complications.

Lyrics
Sometimes I get nostalgic
When I'm wasting time.
I think of how we'd hang out
With nothing on our minds
'cept what if, why, and how
things got so messed up.
No need to make decisions,
But now...
Remembering a sunset
A smile upon your face
Lit up my emotions
While the darkness took place.
I wonder what it'd be like
If we went back in time.
Could we make it right?
Or would we fuck it up again?
But now there's no time for contemplation.
I'm sick of all this anticipation.
Is this the real world?
When did I grow up?
I still have questions.
Things weren't what they used to be,
But we're here now.
Dropping quarters at the arcade
Listening to a new CD
That's how we used to kill time,
Now time is killing me.
I got the latest cell phone
It answers itself.
But it asks so many questions
I leave it on the shelf.
Chorus
Solo
These memories serve a purpose
We learn to recognize
When something is a costume
And when it's a disguise.
How can you tell the difference?
How can you tell the difference?
Get the latest update
Gotta make the papers
What is the deadline?
Someone get the crash cart
I'm about to flatline.
