Story Behind The Song
One day while driving around Nashville, I was struck by the word "vapor". The idea that something can look solid, but be mist was very intriguing to me. At the time I was going through a very unexpected breakup and I felt it really encompassed the experience. I brought the title into a write with Josh and Adam and the rest is history!
Song Description
Vapor is about loss. It's about losing something that you thought would withstand, something that felt rock solid, only to find out that it was dust. I think so many of us have experience real loss these past few years in something we really believed in. Be it a job, a relationship, or a way of life. It turns out the things we know to be true, that we really put our faith in, aren't always meant to last. And that can be really painful. Change is painful. Loss is PAINFUL. It hurts when the floor falls out from under you.
In that pain, however, there is always transformation. When the institutions that hold us up fall, we are left to our own devices -- to our own strength. There is power in experiencing the pain and there is growth in that transformation. You emerge from it a stronger and more authentic version of yourself.

Lyrics
Vapor
I thought you were a diamond in the rough
The kind of steel that was never gonna rust
Rock solid granite
I took it for granted
That you'd always be around
Evergreen, leaves never coming down
I thought you were the ocean
But now I know
You're just spray coming off the waves
Vapor
Smoke coming off the driveway
Steam rising off the highway
When the summer rain falls down
Vapor
Like a ghost out on the water
I should have seen right through you
But I see right through you now
You're the fog on the mountains
The mist on the wind
I reach out to touch you and then
You're vapor
I feel like I'm losing my mind
You didn't leave a single trace behind
It's like black magic
Oh, you just vanished
Into thin air
Like you were never even there
Vapor
Smoke coming off the driveway
Steam rising off of the highway
When the summer rain falls down
Vapor
Like a ghost out on the water
I should have seen right through you
But I see right through you now
You're the sun in the snow
Breath in the cold
I tried too hard to hold
You're vapor
Vapor
You're smoke coming off the paper
Vapor
Smoke coming off the driveway
Steam rising off the highway
When the summer rain falls down
Vapor
Like a ghost out on the water
I should have seen right through you
But I see right through you now
You're the fog on the mountains
The mist on the wind
I reach out to touch you and then
You're vapor
