Ron won the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental as fiddler on the recording of Orange Blossom Special/Hoedown on the Urban Cowboy Soundtrack Album. Ron was the fiddle player for Gilley's Urban Cowboy Band at the time. He was touring with the band during filming of the movie Urban Cowboy. Mickey Gilley and the Urban Cowboy Band split their time between touring and performing and Gilley's club in addition to sessions as Gilley's Recording Studio. After touring with Mickey Gilley for a few years, Ron moved to Colorado, skiing in the day and playing through the nights. In Nashville, Ron toured and recorded with various artists including Dottie West, Michael Martin Murphy, Lobo, Mickey Gilley, Bertie Higgins and Becky Hobbs, and played shows with Kenny Rogers, Charlie Daniels, Merle Haggard, B.J. Thomas, Roy Clark and Conway Twitty. He performed on various television shows including Nashville Now, Church Street Station and Grand Ole Opry Live. PBS American Skyline also aired a special on Ron's career.

After touring with Dottie West for 3 years, Ron left the music business and life on the road to raise a family. He never intended to stop playing music. His daughter is in graduate school now so he is back performing and producing music. I'm Only Sleeping is the most recent result. It includes arrangements of Beatles, Bernstein (West Side Story) and Beauty and the Beast. Keep on the watch for more of Ron's unique fiddle style and fun instrumental arrangements.
