Pete Scafidi Bio

"Pete Scafidi is adult pop rock. I cannot think of any other way to explain it. More contemporary pop than James Taylor on his best day, Scafidi makes smooth pop rock. A voice that has, as far as I can tell, few if any flaws, Scafidi croons over his acoustic guitar about love and life. It?s nothing groundbreaking, it?s nothing new, but there is a demographic that will appreciate it."

Houston singer/songwriter and guitarist Pete Scafidi is a natural-born performer. ?Even as a kid,? Pete says, ?I always wanted to be the one onstage. So before I could play guitar, I used my sense of humor as a way to entertain my friends and classmates.?

Mastering the guitar as a teenager, Pete has been entertaining audiences in Austin and Houston for more than 12 years, playing with several bands and performing his original work as a solo act.

Pete has now recorded his first full-length CD, a self-titled album. Though the songs were originally written and performed on acoustic guitar, the CD features a full backing band. The disc was produced by Houston mixing guru Steve Christensen of Sugarhill Studios, who has worked with Destiny?s Child and Clay Walker, and mastered by Jeff Lipton of Peerless Mastering in Boston. ?With so many layered guitar tracks ? including a ?Nashville?-tuned guitar on the song ?Lullaby,? Steve?s experience really came through,? Pete says.

Born in Chile and raised in the U.S., Pete claims musical influences from both continents. His blend of folk, rock, and blues is tinged with a Spanish style, and his versatility reflects an early exposure to acts ranging from Fats Domino to ABBA to Guns?N?Roses.

In fact, Pete?s obsession with guitar started after seeing the Guns'N'Roses video for "Welcome to the Jungle" as a teenager. ?That video was so mean, evil, and scary ? it had me totally hooked on playing music!? Pete says. For five years, he studied guitar with Paul Lidell (Dangerous Toys, Dirty Looks, Austin Guitar School) and took voice lessons from Donna Menthal in Austin.

Pete has fulfilled his dream of being a working musician and still loves to use his sense of humor to help connect with the audience during the shows.

Review of the song "Getting Closer" from TAXI.
"You have a very solid vocal style and approach, the way that you blend both you're doubles and harmonies is a strong display of you're experience and you're natural skills and abilities. The articulate acoustic guitar work is texturally vibrant and suits this song nicely with it's well crafted tone and knowledgeable placement. The composition itself is written with a thorough adherence to the importance of melody and structural definition within it's overall delivery and design. These well crafted and flowing lyrics are so passionate and real, that I (at least I think I can) can tell they were written from an honest and emotional place. This aesthetic translates immediately to the listener and makes this song that more relatable. Nice work!!"
