BIOGRAPHY

Peter, Lee Hammond
Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist

I live in a mining area in Durham England, where I used to be a miner at Easington Colliery pit.
I have been writing songs since I was 18 and the Easington Colliery Council asked me to write a song about the colliery and its mining history when the mines were shutting down in England.
I did this and they were so impressed that they had it made into a single and it had airplay on the radio.
The proceeds went to a children’s handicapped school for equipment that they needed.
Quite a few celebrities got involved with the funding and I received a letter from
Paul McCartney and the single was mixed at Abbey Road Studios.
The Prime Minister Mrs. Thatcher sent me a signed photo of herself and Prince Charles H.R.H. also sent me a letter of congratulations and asked for a copy of the single to be sent to him.
The song is now part of the Living History Mining Memorabilia Exhibition of the Vardy Gallery Museum in Sunderland T
