Peace Jones Bio

Peace Jones is a band defined by their versatility.
Funky urban meets southern blues; quirky hip-hop
lyrics laced over white-boy reggae; jam-band collides
with prog-rock. One thing is for sure - Peace Jones is a
refreshing and positive departure from the norm and
will put a smile on your face and get you kicking up
your heels!
Peace Jones was formed in 2004 in Asheville, NC,
though the band’s true origin goes back to the summer
of 1998 when front man Paul DeCirce first arrived
in Asheville from his hometown in Syracuse NY.
DeCirce found a thriving community of musicians
and 'bohemians' in Asheville and quickly got involved
with numerous local acts. He's been part of
many genres of music in respected circles including:
reggae (BABACAR AND HEALING NATION), dance
(SCRAPPY HAMILTON) acid/jazz (UFO, THE
DHOOP), jam band (SUNTRIBE) and power pop
(PAPERBOY).
Now, in Peace Jones, DeCirce (vocals, guitars, flute
and harmonica) is widely becoming known for his
percussive wild flute playing and raunchy electric
guitar. Hand in hand with Peace Jones music is
DeCirce's action and opinions of equality, spiritual
growth, and revolution, which he sings and speaks
about with bravado. Scott Blanchard (bass guitar,
backing vocals) and Todd Omley (drum kit) add decades
of experience and fill out the tight rhythm section,
with various guests sitting in on the keyboards.
In spring of 2004, DeCirce taped together his own label,
"Ghostbaby Records" as a simple calling card and
means of distribution. In April of 2004, Peace Jones
released their first EP “The Path Narrows”. The Path
Narrows highlights DeCirce’s folk, country and
acoustic roots and sets the stage for the injection of
the urban sounds of the following year. 2005 saw the
conception and production of the “Laundry Lady”
EP, which was officially released in 2006. “Laundry
Lady” was a primer for the forthcoming full-length
CD “Down to the Bone”. It introduced an addictive
array of “got you singing in your car” melodies and
brought Peace Jones immediate recognition. It's
working-class funk-rock with a reggae vibe, featuring
DeCirce's artistic use of the flute and quirky lyrics.
The full-length CD “Down to the Bone” was released
in late 2006 and has met with wide acclaim
and has solidified Peace Jones as one of Asheville,
NC’s most innovative and promising new bands.
In September of 2006, WNCW (Spindale, NC) recorded
Peace Jones live at Asheville’s Echo Mountain
Studio for the “Local Color” radio program. This interview/
live performance was widely broadcast and
has resulted in airplay (five songs off of “Down to
the Bone), a nomination for best regional CD and a
fanatical response of the unique and refreshing
sound that Peace Jones brings to the airwaves. Since
2004, Peace Jones has played hundreds of shows in
the southeast at respected venues, festivals and
many college towns. The coming year will see Peace
Jones expanding their touring schedule and recording
their sophomore release.
