The Paul Hayes Band brings together crafted songwriting, folk influences and guitar noise. In other words, they're too clever for their own good. Exhibit "A " might well be their record "Vol. 1: Love and Pain and The Whole Damn' Thing," available thru CD Baby and Amazon, among others.
Led by Irish-born songwriter Hayes, they tread a dangerous path between the coffeehouse and the artist's loft. Playing "Spot The Influence" is exhausting, but fun. Retro influences like The Beatles and Neil Young abound, sitting quite comfortably with low-fi echoes of more contemporary favourites like The Decemberists and Neutral Milk Hotel....
