"I'm On Fire" takes out 2nd place at the ASA Awards!

The backstory...

Money is important to everyone, but let’s face it; when you’re a 5 year-old child, confectionary wins out every time! Eager to showcase her talents at an early age, Natalie Reiss chose a Chatswood shopping centre as her location and a mannequin’s podium as her stage. After one performance of Miss Polly Had A Dolly, Natalie received her first payment in the form of an ice cream from a particularly impressed audience member/shopper fortunate enough to catch this impromptu show.

A childhood of dance training ensued as well as participation in school choirs and musicals. However it wasn’t until Natalie was 15 that she surprised herself and her fellow singing students when she belted out Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walking. A strong voice emerged and Natalie started to take singing more seriously and enrolled at The Jaanz School of Singing where she opened their annual concert with an old-school rendition of It’s Raining Men at age 17.

Throughout Natalie’s university career, she became ensconsed in Sydney’s music scene as a regular contributor to 3D World and The Drum Media; interviewing and reviewing the likes of Prince, Little Birdy, D12, Jay-Z and Mica Paris. However, singing remained a constant and was further ingrained with a week-long NIDA intensive that culminated in a performance of Etta James’ At Last. Natalie’s appreciation of soulful music and classical techniques were furthered under the guidance of The Australian Institute of Music where she took voice lessons.

As her writing career expanded, Natalie used her craft to pen lyric after lyric in her spare time and cemented her commitment to songwriting. 2007 has seen Natalie record a cover of Etta James’ At Last as well her own music. Two of Natalie’s songs (Scarlet Fever and I’m On Fire) were shortlisted in The Australian Songwriters Association 27th AUSTRALIAN SONGWRITING CONTEST; I’m On Fire went onto be a Top 10 finalist in the Open category eventually taking out 2nd place. Natalie was also one of the Top 30 artists in Commercial Radio Australia’s New Artist 2 Radio competition.
