Bio

Mike Blount grew up in the Deep South singing in the church choir and learned to play piano on his grandmother's upright. He learned some guitar chords and church hymns from the son of an evangelist and began mimicking his favorite classic rock stars in his father's vinyl collection. A little later he moved to the California where he bounced around handing out free cassette tapes to anyone who would listen.

"It's not catchy enough. Write some damn melodies."

He joined a band or two and played some shows all the while working on several solo acoustic-y pop jangle records in his spare time. Once the band had run its course, he moved back to Mississippi after Katrina devastated it. It wasn't long before he was back playing shows in a brand new old familiar setting.

...And so his latest work is something reminiscent of Elvis Costello's body of work. Coming from a variety of influences and places, each song is like an embarrassing Polaroid snapshot from the past. It's awkward but refreshingly honest. It comes from many places; some familiar and some unfamiliar. It's just plain fun. More on this later...

His first solo record "Stories From an Endless Sea" is a concept record about five people who inspired him at different times and places in his life and how they would meet on a street corner somewhere. Five songs dedicated to five extraordinary people: a pregnant high school dropout looked down upon by a small town, a paranoid conspiracy-theorist hippie, a seductive lovestruck vixen, an unobtainable goddess who's oblivious to his real feelings, and a man getting on a plane to leave everything he's ever known behind.

Now, he's back with a new record that took him a little under a year to record. Featuring a cast of musicians playing various parts and singing on and off-key, "Enjoy Your Life" is a record about life. Your life. My life. It's a celebration of life and living. It's twelve songs that sound like a person who's learned to enjoy himself and not take himself too seriously. It's just plain fun. So without further ado, enjoy your life.
