Biography

As you may know by now, my name is Michael Attinger. But yeah, most people just call me Mike or Mikey. I was born in the lil' country The Netherlands where I still live. My first (real) music experience was learning to play the piano. I started out with some classical music, but soon after I discovered boogie-woogies and such. The second instrument I learned was the drumkit. I started out in a local drumband which taught me basics like my first rudiments etc. After that my attention was drawn towards the full drumkit. With the help of my own savings (and the help of grandma) I bought my first drumkit and started taking lessons at the local musicschool. And up to today I still take my weekly lesson there. My teacher is Guido Smulders and I couldn't have asked for a better and more caring teacher. In Los Angeles I studied with drummers like Joe Porcaro, Sherman Ferguson and Mike Shapiro.

My all-time favorite artist is Phil Collins. He's got this magical sound which is just one-of-a-kind and timeless. I love both his older songs and his newest songs done for musicials and Disney movies. I'm also inspired by songwriter David Benoit. I like his feel and of course his songs. Next to Phil and David, I'm also influenced by younger artists like Ryan Leslie and Brian Culbertson. When looking at my favorite drummers, I really like Questlove (The Roots). His grooves are the best out there imho. I'm a drummer who loves to groove and hates to do solos. Yup, I'd rather play a neat groove and listen to the sound of the rest of the band, than to show off every tool in my toolbox.

Recording music is one of the other things I just love to do. I've studied at the SAE in Amsterdam because of that. Nowadays I'm recording my own music and that of others. I also mix, master and produce for other artists, which is fun to do. So if I can be of any help let me know.

Let me know if you need either a drummer, piano-player or some acoustic guitar. I'm available for studio and live work. There's also an option to record in my own project-studio. Next to that I can also help with writing and/or arranging songs.
