San Diego singer/songwriter/cancer survivor Laura Roppe's soulful, honest voice and "story songs" have caught notice since she came on the scene in 2008. First album entitled "Girl Like This" was nominated album of the year at the L.A. Music Awards 2009, and her self-penned song, "Float Away," won Americana Single of the Year. In late 2008, Laura was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and underwent rigorous chemotherapy treatments for most of the year. After treatments in mid-2009, Laura toured the UK and filmed a much-anticipated music video for "Float Away." "Float Away" reached No. 5 on the Amazon UK singles chart. Laura is currently recording her second full length album of songs (all self-penned) with her indie rocker cousin, Matthew Embree (Rx Bandits), finding inspiration from flipping the bird to Death. Laura has played on TV, radio (including BBC big markets such as Liverpool, Wales, Manchester, and Radio 2), festivals, and award shows.
