Ken's music is acoustic rock from the south. Hooky songs introduced with tight drums and intelligent bass lines meshed with almost edgy Les Paul/Marshall slide guitar riffs, Les Paul/Vox combo rhythm guitars and very listenable acoustic guitars. The songs are hammered home with clever but to the point lyrics and lots of harmonies. Ken's singing is "strong and natural... it is soulful with just the right rasp to it." His vocal style is certainly unique but has been described as a cross between Don Henley of the Eagles and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. Recent live shows feature opening slots for Vanessa Carlton and Stone Temple Pilots. Ken's debut CD, "Gypsy Drive Thru" was released in the summer of 2002.

Birmingham, AL based singer/songwriter, Ken Johnson "writes songs that are loaded with hooks, killer up-front vocals and a passion for poetic but straight forward lyrics."
"Ken and his band bring to the table a level of musicianship and songwriting not often found in your above average local band." They call their music “acoustic rock from the south” and they are winning over fans that traditionally listen to country as well as rock and alternative styles of music.
Ken’s influences are many, considering that he has been a fan of music since he could walk. “When I was a kid, my parents had the stereo on like most people have the TV on” says Ken. “That hasn’t changed in my house”. Ken attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was a member of the Berklee gospel choir. Ken has developed a truly solid vocal range and style of his own that can be attributed to many hours in the choir loft and many hours on stage in clubs and performance halls.
Ken’s 2002 debut album entitled Gypsy Drive Thru has already put him on the radar. National publication, ONSTAGE Magazine says “Ken Johnson’s debut release Gypsy Drive Thru, is impressive for it’s songwriting, performances and production.” Also of note is the fact that Aware records (John Mayer, Train) has added Gypsy Drive Thru to their online sight Awarestore.com. Awarestore plans to start promotional efforts for the CD in December 2002.
