Songwriter James F. Curley pieces together a sonic quilt of original ballads, roots rockers and whimsical ditties for fans of well-crafted lyrics and accessible, memorable melodies.
Performing original, stylistically broad Americana songs …from the folk-tinged "Tom's Cafe" to the tongue-in-cheek New Orleans stomp of "Flies"… from the roots-rockin' "Moonlight Cold, Wind" to the tender ballad “Deep In My Bones”… James swings effortlessly between original songs influenced by a broad range of songwriters from Steve Goodman and Ralph McTell to Lyle Lovett and Carl Martin (of Martin, Bogan and Armstrong).
James' song "FLIES" was a runner-up (placed in the top 10 out of thousands entered) in the 2002 JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST in the children's category! You can hear a streaming sample of the song as well as many others at www.jamescurley.net

Bio
Performing original, stylistically broad Americana songs… from the folk-tinged "Tom's Cafe" to the tongue-in-cheek New Orleans stomp of "Flies"… from the wickedly sarcastic blues of “The Hunt" to the zany country blues of "I Jumped Bail"… James swings effortlessly between original songs influenced by a broad range of songwriters and performers in folk, country blues, pop, ragtime and country styles. He’s clearly a fan of a broad pallet of American musical styles and it’s evident in his songs.
James’ guitar playing is a rhythmic, percussive, acoustic, bare-fingered hodgepodge of styles influenced by folk, pop, country, blues and ragtime. James’ powerful vocals range from rootsy and raucous to reflective and sonorous, depending on his songs, which cover a lot of stylistic ground without being derivative of any other single artist.
Fans of country, rock, pop, folk, blues, ragtime and general American styled songwriting will find much to like in James' broad range of original songs.
Released in 2002, James’ CD – ‘TOM’S CAFÉ’ - purposely avoids the ultra-compressed sonic style of modern pop music and features spare but rich arrangements of vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, piano and keyboards, percussion, harmonica, accordion, acoustic and electric bass, Dobro and pedal steel guitar.
