Jeffery Hyde Thompson, a New Orleans native, has spent the last five years living everywhere but his hometown. As songwriter and performer, Jeffery's New Orleans roots always shine through but his songs are steeped in themes and imagery from his travels. From his years playing the songwriter circuit in Austin, Texas to his half-year stint as a student of Buddhism in Bodh Gaya, India, to his current home in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, the themes of his songs run almost as wide a gamut as his travels. The music itself is as eclectic as the performer's background. Influences are easy to here... Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Jeff Buckley... but the consistent thread that runs throughout Thompson's work is that it is all thoroughly and distinctively his own.
In the summer of 2000, when he won the Eddie's Attic biannual "shoot out" in Decatur, Georgia, Jeffery finally decided to commit full-time to the "performing songwriter" craft. He had just completed a bachelors degree integrating psychology, philosophy, and religion at Warren Wilson college (David Wilcox' alma mater!) And was faced with that looming question: "what now!!??" ("What kind of a job can I get with such a weird major... oh, songwriting!!!") Encouraged by his success in Georgia, Jeffery completed his first CD.
