At the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, New York, he studied drumming with Jack DeJohnette, Bobby Moses, Stu Martin and Jumma Santos, and creative ensemble performance under the guidance of Karl Berger, Dave Holland, Kalaparusha, and John Ambercrombie.

The music of San Francisco-Bay Area artist Charles Xavier reaches for the innovative and the original, weaving the threads of different genres to create a new sound and a new musical landscape. His release, "The XMan Cometh, Expect the Unexpected," features The XMan, an emcee of sorts, who boldly questions the socio-political quo.

Some songs dark, some just plain fun, The XMan delivers hope and a call for personal and socio-political change in a fast and complex world.

In 1982, Xavier and Glenn Feit (Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Byrne) co-produced an EP, "The King Has Come," with Xavier and the Messengers. The album received an "Editor's Choice" review from Downbeat Magazine. In the mid-70s, Xavier led an avant-garde jazz band, Satori, appearing on television and receiving radio airplay.

A professional jazz drummer at sixteen, Xavier studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, New York.
