A little bit about Geoff Martyn

I was born in Glasgow, Scotland in September 1971. At the age of 5, I was listening to my dad's copies of the White Album, Revolver and Rubber Soul. Spurred on by a love of everything melodic, I started to bash out a few songs on the family piano in the hall.

Not long after, I progressed to piano lessons next door; a weekly commute of about 10 metres. Piano grades followed and the old rusty piano was upgraded to next year's model.

By the age of 15, I had started to get into bands and formed a band with my brother Chris on bass. We called ourselves Glass Onion and for the next couple of years, went through the usual dramatics of gaining and losing friends and band-members along the way.

Roll on 1990. Chris and I started a new band with a certain Fran Healy, Andy Dunlop and Neil Primrose. Inheriting the name "Glass Onion", we soon changed that to the more univerally appeally "Travis". Five years passed; lots of gigs, practices too many to mention, an EP, recording contracts and publishing contracts a plenty, and songs that would eventually go on to rock stadiums the world over.

Leaving Travis in April of 1996, I spent several years writing songs, some of which made it onto my debut album 'Something Good: Live at the House of Tea' in 2002. I then started the band "Jupiter and Teardrop", went on to play SXSW in 2005 and gain interest from major lables and publishers. Bands however, have a tendency to implode and this one was no exception.

Since SXSW2005, I have been writing away with none other than Chris Difford of Squeeze, Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet, Boo Hewerdine (writer and producer for a host of artists: Natalie Imbruglia, Eddi Reader etc), Adam Levy (Co-writer and guitarist for Norah Jones) and getting my music featured in Fox Network show Reunion, and the Warner Brothers show, Summerland. I have also just added piano and hammond to Roddy Hart's debut album "Bookmarks', featuring none other than Kris Kristofferson and Fairground Attraction's Eddi Reader.

I am currently working on my first solo studio album.
